About the Tarqui Cup
The Tarqui Cup is an annual micro lot competition for local farmers around the city of Tarqui in the Huila province, part of the Central Cordillera of the Andes. Here, coffees grow up to 2000 meters altitude, in rich and varied micro climats.
A professional panel scores the coffees blindly, incentivising farmers by paying great premiums for great coffees. This year, the coffees that placed 11th-20th were blended together and this resulted in an amazingly fruity and complex lot.
Drying the washed coffee is the biggest challenge in Huila, because of rain and high humidity. Farmers improve the quality of their coffee by building better ventilated dryers, sometimes adding shade nets to slow the drying process. This improves the quality and longevity of the coffee.
