Tirtira Goyo coffee is produced around 2,000 meters in the Guji appellation. Its name is linked with the village where the drying station is located. DW company, who works for Ethiopian specialty coffee since many years, has implemented here all the necessary tools to prepare quality natural coffee. “Tirtira” literally means having a strong, fearless personality. Goyo is the name of a farmer who lived there many years ago and was well-known for his tenacity. The village, the drying station and now the coffee pay tribute to this old local figure, Goyo, the daring farmer, who still inspires young farmers nowadays!
Tirtira Goyo is located at 400 km in the south of Addis Ababa, within the Guji appellation. DW company built there a drying station to prepare carrefully the cherries from the surrounding plots. DW collects cherries here from local farmers. The coffee trees grow in a rich natural environment, with a lot of different trees species. The specific presence of Enset is particularly good for coffee. Enset, also called false banana, is typical of the southern Ethiopia. Its trunk, when it is pounded, provides a flour with nutritional values long recognized by local populations. This large trunk also becomes a water tank by storing water from the rainy season and dispering it around during the dry season to moisten the soil. DW Company works with local farmers providing them technical assistance and financial support. This close collaboration ensures the production of quality coffee.
THE STORY OF THE PRODUCER
The company DW Coffee Export has been established in coffee sector since more than 20 year, especially in the region of Guji where the manager Demissie Edema comes from. DW is both a producer and an exporter. DW owns farms within the Guji appellation as well as several washing and drying stations in Hambela district. Aware of the potential of the coffee produced in this area, the members of DW have put their energy into enhancing the quality of the coffees from here. In addition to the coffees harvested on their farms, DW works with small farmers from whom they collect beautiful cherries to complete the lots. To support these producers, DW provides them technical assistance and financial support, especially by paying cherries higher than the market to maintain an optimal quality. To be sure to trace well the cherries, DW ensures their preparation in different stations. They balance amount of cherries to obtain a uniform way of drying and the best quality. The precision of the team at different levels of their work guarantees the quality of these coffees.. Several DW coffees have won awards in recent years, in Ethiopia and at competitions across Africa. These distinctions made DW very proud and confirm their precise work from farm to export
