As we developed Standart Issue 31, motifs of speed, time, and ephemerality recurred, lending the issue a cohesive and dreamlike texture.

But our new issue is special in another sense, too.

It marks—for the small world that exists across our issues, team, and readers—a beginning of a new era. Over the past six months or so, we have been developing an uplifted design scheme—one that works even better to express the manifold stories we yearn to tell from all over the world of coffee. A refreshed approach to design, typography, imagery, and structure awaits you, inviting you to explore the issue with a greater sense of connection and intimacy.

In the issue, we visit Douglas Weber, founder of Weber Workshops, and talk about his design philosophy and where he gets his ideas, before our pit stop to Formula 1 driver Valtteri Bottas for a coffee and a drive, as we discuss everything from go-karting to coffee roasting and Moomins. Lance Hedrick tells the tale of the development of home espresso and even poses with his favourite vintage lever espresso machines for a special calendar.

We head to Gorongosa National Park in Mozambique, where a specialty coffee scene is slowly but surely developing, look in-depth at the specialty instant coffee sector, consider whether there can be such a thing as sustainable air travel, and finish it all off with a trip to Sin City itself, Las Vegas!
